His career as a racing driver was longer than some other Formula One drivers’, having driven from 1987 to 2001. He raced with famous teams such as Ferrari, Larrousse, and Jordan. Much of his career involved racing for the team owned by Jean Alesi. In the last race of the season, he experienced an accident that drove him over a high curb on the track and so caused his untimely departure from the world of motorsport.
